SHAZAM!

THE GOOD NEWS: New Line Cinema is making a SHAZAM! movie based on the DC Comic!!

The story centers on Billy Batson, who becomes the superhero known as Captain Marvel when he utters the magic word "Shazam!" The name is an acronym for six gods and heroes of the ancient world as well as their attributes: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Aries, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.

THE BAD NEWS: It's going to be directed by Peter Segal of such gems as The Longest Yard, 50 First Dates, Anger Management and Nutty Professor II. Ugh. Can't they just get Bryan Singer? *note bitter sarcasm* This decision mirrors hiring Tim Story, who previously directed Barbershop and Taxi, to direct Fantastic Four. And we saw what turdalicious poop came from that! Uggghhhh.

I'm getting REALLY frustrated & exasperated with this comic-to-film shit.

Update: Let me clarify....I'm frusrated with the handling of comic-to-film adaptations. Those who are making these films appear to have no understanding what makes the comics successful to begin with and often no understanding of storytelling and filmmaking. Comic-to-film can be wonderful in the right qualified hands.

You mean that you'd prefer film-to-comic?

One the one hand, I'm ALWAYS glad when Hollywood decides that comics make good movies. But, on the other hand, when they make them in to movies that suck, it makes us all look like fools.
